The Clondara Historical & Cultural Group is currently conducting research into a group of men from the Falls Road area of Belfast who enlisted with the Connaught Rangers Regiment at the outbreak of W.W.1.in August 1914. These men, many of them members of the Irish Volunteers and supporters of the Irish Parliamentary Party, joined the famous 88^th

They were promised Home Rule if they joined the fight, “that small nations might be free”. When the survivors returned Home Rule was dead and many of the veterans joined the I.R.A and their stories faded with Redmondism. Their story is part of a much neglected area of Irish Nationalist history. Unfortunately our research has been limited due to the absence of factual records.

We are appealing to the descendents of these men to help record their storey and create a wider view of Nationalism in that period.

We would therefore like to take the opportunity to make an appeal to readers of The Irish News who could assist us in obtaining relevant information concerning these men and the Connaught Rangers. Photographs, papers, documents etc. that readers and their families may have, could be posted, or delivered in person, to 426 Falls Road. All information that people wish to submit will be photo-copied and returned, by post or in person.
